Janie

Janie is a student at the local college and works part time at the Fria café. She lives in the cooperatively-run Ondine Hostel on Citron Hill, where she shares a room with her sweetheart Em. The girls’ relationship is emphatically non-exclusive. At school, she studies studio art in Asami’s pottery program and minors in media studies.

In her free time, Janie organizes DIY punk and electronic shows at the café, screen prints shirts for local bands, walks in the Preserve, and hangs out with friends on the Celandine patio.

She grew up on the coast in Fernhaven at the mouth of the Fern River, and moved into town for school three years ago. “I swam upstream,” she tells people when they ask where she’s from. On holiday weekends, she hitches a ride to the coast aboard her older sister Elle’s cargo sailboat Sappho.
