Jule

Jule is in her late 20s and a recent arrival to Fern River, where she rents a room in a co-housing community next door to the Wellness Center. She works part time as a clerk at the food co-op, and part time in summer as a groundskeeper and handywoman for Tati at Hazel Grove. She moonlights as a DJ under the name High Desert Soundsystem.

Jule moves around often and enjoys traveling solo. Before moving to town, she spent a few years living at the edge of the Mojave Desert, where she worked as a backcountry guide. In Fern River, she spends her free time foraging for edible plants and mushrooms, playing guitar, and hunting secluded hot springs and waterfalls in the Preserve. She’s still adjusting to the Mediterranean climate.

Since her teenage years, Jule has had a deep interest in astrology, and enjoys casting charts for friends and lovers. She works with an astrologer occasionally at the Wellness Center, and always stops to check out upcoming events on the bulletin board. Bri’s masturbation workshops pique her interest. The mix of sexuality and spirituality is a heady one for Jule.

Although she hasn’t made many friends in town yet, she was introduced to Lena early on by a mutual painter friend in the desert, who she did some life modeling for a few years back. She has enjoyed sitting for Lena in her welcoming studio.

Not many people in town own cars anymore, but Jule drives an old pickup that she and a resourceful friend in the desert converted to electric from a wrecked robo-taxi. Hydroelectric power is plentiful during the wet season, so Jule does most of her driving then, preferring a bicycle during the dry months anyway. She picks up passengers at the carpool stops frequently, and usually enjoys the conversations that follow.
