Lena's studio

Lenaโ€™s studio is spacious and sunlit, with philodendron and pothos trailing down from the exposed beams beneath large skylights. The building has a comfortable, handmade quality โ€” naturally, since she and Carlos built it themselves along with their small house back in the 1980s. All the windows are high, looking into the trees and sky, so Lena and her visitors feel comfortable sitting and moving around the space nude.

The studio is heated in the winter months by a small Danish cast iron woodstove placed at one end of the room. A colorful wool kilim piled with pillows covers the opposite end, and a big work table sits at the center. An enameled lamp hangs over the table and casts a warm circle of light for evening work.
